Les rencontres d'Arles
For the organizers of the Photo Münsingen it was a long-cherished goal to visit the big brother Les Rencontres Arles Photography. The first impression: huge. No fewer than 50 exhibitions in monumental exhibition buildings such as churches, monasteries, former administration buildings and industrial halls. The spectrum of the works ranged from photographs to installations to sculptures. The duration of the exhibition of almost three months explains why a huge effort could be made for individual exhibitions.
A first highlight are the minimalist pictures by Hiroshi Sugimoto, the presentation is impressive.
Unmistakable: the self portraits by Arno Rafael Minkkinen.
A unity of space, light and stone: Lee Ufan.
Impressive, often oppressive: the view from Gordon Parks to the United States.
